Is Your Light Under a Bushel?

Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Do you understand what Jesus meant when He said to not put your light under a bushel? That is common practice in the organized church-world. A bushel is a unit of measure and a unit of measure has a limitation. When you put your light under a bushel, you are limiting the area of illumination. Many church organizations are like that. They have a limit to how far they will allow their light to shine. They put a limit on how much they will believe. They decide on their statement of faith, put a fence around it, and make no provision for further illumination. They have put their light under a bushel.

Many Christians have a ceiling on their spiritual growth. Sometimes it is done unconsciously. Without even being aware of it, they have determined in their heart to not go any further in the Lord. Their dedication has a limit. Their light is under a bushel!
